1768 - A small expedition is sent by the English to find the fabled Southern Continent. Its commander is the unknown James Cook. Two years later he returns having charted the coast of New Zealand and Eastern Australia. At home he finds himself branded a failure and determines to set out on another expedition. He searches for the elusive continent for three years, taking in the tropical paradise of Tahiti and the desolate wastes of the Antarctic. Returning a hero this time, Cook cannot resist one last fatal voyage to find the Northwest Passage.
