1918: On board a French Navy-ship, Captain Alfred de Morsac docks on the island of Fenua Poerava, a secluded paradise, better known as "Pearl Island", in the Polynesian archipelago, where he discovers an ancient warrior tribe, the Hiva, under the control of the despised Commandant Lefebvre.
