Jeanne lives in a house in the suburbs with her mother Louise. The two women get along well together. Louise makes a living as a babysitter, while Jeanne, without too much conviction, looks for work. One day, when reading an ad on the Internet, Louise believes that destiny has finally knocked on her door. She hopes to get her daughter hired by Samuel Bleistein, a famous attorney she once knew in her youth. Jeanne’s world and that of Bleistein are light-years apart… Still, they are going to meet because of the incredible lie that Jeanne is going to build up. The film is the story of this lie which is to become the most highly mediatised and politicised news item in recent years.

"Masterful storytelling... Superb"
NEW YORK PRESS

“Veteran French auteur André Téchiné turns in a complex drama which displays all his trademarks of narrative density,
insightful character study and a passionate engagement with the complexities of modern French politics and culture.
This provocative and involving piece proves that the French tradition of intelligent, adult film-making is still healthy
and in the right hands, can still provide upmarket commercial prospects.â€
SCREEN INTERNATIONAL

“From this polarizing lie, Techine fashions a brilliantly complex, intimate multi-strander, held together but somewhat
skewed by the central perf of Emilie Dequenne ("Rosetta"), whose radiant physicality threatens to eclipse even Catherine Deneuve.â€

"Vintage Téchiné... A riveting film."
