The rising star of romance novels, Ellen Wilder, mid-30s, develops a writer's block after her messy divorce.
Looking for a change of scenery, she rents a cabin in a beautifully secluded location on a lake shore. Inspiration strikes in the shape of her 22-year-old neighbor, Michael. The young man soon fuels her fantasies and becomes the star of her blog with the nickname "Boy Next Door".
But when Michael is found dead, his wealthy, influential family, the local police and a mysterious stalker come together to turn Ellen's obsession into evidence of her guilt.
