It's love at first sight when Arnaud the cop arrives at the hospital wounded and Pauline the doctor patches him up.
But Pauline refuses to introduce her new boyfriend to her parents, Max and Mirabelle, two committed eco-warriors. The only cops they ever meet are the ones in riot gear that break up their protest marches. And Max wears the memories of those encounters in the scars on his body.
But when Pauline can't delay the inevitable meeting any longer, Arnaud arrives in his gas-guzzling SUV, smoking, and with a leather bag and duck paté as gifts for his prospective in-laws—who are vegetarians!
Max becomes obsessed with finding a way to end Pauline's impossible love affair.
